2010 issue Isle of Rona Local Carriage Stamps

The 2010 local carriage stamps feature the variety of sailing boats that visit the sheltered bay of Rona 's Acarseid Mhor, or Big Harbour .  Rona is a popular destination for vessels from all over the world during the summer season, providing a pontoon, safe mooring and facilities ashore to encourage access for all to one of Scotland 's most beautiful anchorages. 

The complete set (ref RS014, £3.00) and includes 4 stamps in a strip (2 x 40p, 2 x 60p) and a separate £1.00 panorama stamp.

The £1.00 stamp shows Drascombe boats:  a traditional-styled sailing boat with distinctive red sails - those pictured are the Dutch Drascombe Owners' Circle visiting Rona harbour during their 2010 Scotland trip


The other four stamps in a strip feature:


an 80 ft Ocean going yacht (40p), often visiting the island with sail trainers, schools and sailing charities.


'Yacht Wender' 100 year old top sail gaff cutter with red sails sailing into Big Harbour (40p)


'Yacht Aisling' a Contessa 32: a local modern yacht, and a popular yacht among the sailing fraternity (60p) 


a Wayfarer dinghy:  one of  the smallest cruisers that visit.  The one pictured belongs to the island and has circumnavigated Rona (60p)


The First Day Cover (ref FDC2010, £6) will include a full set of stamps franked 01st Setpember 2010, on an illustrated envelope with a colour postcard stiffener, again featuring the Drascombe yachts.


Also available are full sheets of the 4 stamp strips (ref RS16, £12) containing 6 sets of 4 and full sheets of the panoramic stamps (ref RS15, £24) which contain 24 x £1 stamps.
