2010 International Year of Biodiversity special stamp issue

The Philatelic Bureau of MaltaPost will be issuing a philatelic commemorative set of four stamps entitled '2010 International Year of Biodiversity' on the 23rd September 2010.

The year 2010 has been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. This initiative invited the World to take action to safeguard the variety of life on earth. The philatelic stamps depict four species found in the Maltese Islands which are: the Maltese (Filfla) Wall Lizard, the Storm Petrel, the Maltese Pyramidal Orchid and the Fresh – Water Crab. An amount of 500,000 stamps carry a face value of €0.19 whilst 50,000 stamps carry a face value €0.68, €0.86 and €1.40 respectively.
