Historical reference: Maxim Tank (real name Yevgeniy Skurko; born September 17, 1912 in the village of Pilkovschina, Myadel district, Minsk region; died August 7, 1995) was a Belarusian poet, translator and statesman. He was a People's Poet of Belarus (1968) and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1972).
His first verses were published in the manuscript magazine "Prolom (Breach)" (1931). His first collection of verses was named "On stages" (1936). Maxim Tank created many books, poems and collections of verses. His well-known books are: "The lightning track" (1957), "The gulp of water" (1964), "Let there be light" (1972) and "Ave Maria" (1980). Thematic breadth and variety of forms are characteristic features of his works.
Maxim Tank also wrote verses and tales for children.
