A FORMER GRIMALDI FIEF - DUCHY OF VALENTINOIS

Until the French Revolution, the Princes of Monaco were in possession of substantial fiefs on the French territory. The duchy of Valentinois was given by Louis XIII, King of France through the Treaty of Peronne, signed on 14th September 1641. H.S.H. Prince Albert II will officially visit the duchy of Valentinois and the city of Crest in May 2013. The stamp features the Tower of Crest, the highest medieval dungeon in France, as well as the coat of arms of the Grimaldis with the crown of Honoré II.
