To celebrate the Tour's fourth visit to this side of the channel and the first since 2007 when it began in London, Isle of Man Post Office has produced a special edition collection for le Grand Depart Yorkshire 2014, inspired by the heroes of the Tour and the landmarks The Greatest Race will pass-by. Focusing on the three stages of the UK Tour and three stand-out stages from Belgium and France, the collection maps the route from Leeds to the spectacular finale on the Champs Elysees in Paris, offering insight into why the Tour de France is widely regarded as the toughest endurance test in sport, the significance of the iconic landmarks and the spectacular scenery en route. The first two stages of the UK Tour in the 'white rose country' has produced many of Britain's best cyclists, including Brian Robinson, the first Briton to win a stage of the Tour in 1958.
This stage offers the Isle of Man's own 'Manx Missile' Mark Cavendish his best chance of winning the coveted yellow jersey of race leader and he will have even more motivation than usual as Harrogate also happened to be where his mum was born, so all eyes will be on him for the first stage from Leeds to Harrogate on 5th July. Stage 3 moves from Cambridge to London before the Tour returns to France and continues its journey to Paris, which will witness the wearer of the 'maillot jaune' adding their name to the list of Tour legends.
This colourful collection contains a set of six pictorial sheets, a set of six large-format prepaid postcards, collectors wallet, special cover postmarked 5th July and a personally signed and hand numbered cover by Brian Robinson, limited to just 500 editions. This officially licensed issue is a must-have for all collectors and fans of Le Tour as the ultimate commemoration of Le Tour de France Grand Depart Yorkshire 2014. -
